The Great Shepherd

“Now may the God of peace, who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus ​— ​the great Shepherd of the sheep ​— ​through the blood of the everlasting covenant, equip you with everything good to do his will, working in us what is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever.”

Hebrews 13:20-21 (CSB)

Sometimes we feel that we are wondering through life as Christ followers alone and relying on our own strength. We can create that perception by not spending time daily with the Lord in Bible reading and prayer, asking Him to strengthen us and work His will in and through us. In other occasions, the enemy brings these thoughts to our mind to paralyze us, preventing us from doing what God wants us to that day.

Either way, we need to speak truth to our feelings. As Christ followers, through the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, God is molding us each day into the image of His Son. Although we might think that He is not present, like a shepherd, He carries us through life until the point that we see Christ face to face. God’s Word says that the Great Shepherd laid down His life for us (John 10:11). He will not leave His sheep abandoned, but walks with us even through the valley of the shadow of death (Psalm 23:4).

Christ follower, do not be discouraged, God is working His will in and through your life and will complete it when you breathe your last breath. Focus each day on His Word and upon the Good Shepherd who carries you.
